There saving grace was they kept your arse off a Stony desert floor Pat, and away from most things that crawled stung or bit and if you took your boots off make sure to shake them out before you put them on. Mind to be fair I was never stung or bit when we were out there.

As you say Bob, better than laying on the deck, but only just. The new Yank style camp cots they have now are a great improvement. When you say about things in your boots, I remember in Belize I was sat on a bed while Chris Parris on the next bed picked his boot up and reached inside grabbing what he thought was his elastics. he saw my eyes widen and looked down to see he was holding a f.ckin' great tarantula by the leg! Bet he remembered to shake his boots every time after that! 🤣 

Some of the big ones could give you a nasty bite, but some of the smaller ones can kill you like the old Black Widow etc. I went by the old saying don't bother them and they don't bother you.
