Dave Tompkins was a petty thief who craved adventure. His career as an international mercenary began in Africa and took him all over the world - to Afghanistan, Croatia and later to Colombia, where he led a team commissioned to assassinate notorious Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar. He went out with Callan and Copland to Angola he was the explosives guy in the team. While laying some mines he was injured by one going off. Got casavact back to uk just before Callan executed some of his men. Peter McAleese featured. We had one guy in our squadron who was out there he told me that the only way he survived was to keep to SOP’s staying in the bush and no tracks/roads

Think your spot on there Pat, Society is out of control today because of a lack of discipline. Because of the wimpy, whining snow flake dogooder s who broke a system that worked.
Tek the mobile fone off em n they,re fukked!
Re "...pampered spoiled little bastard generations!". It's a deliberate ploy to create this situation where people are too frightened to say boo to a goose. Look at that woman who got 3yrs in prison for discussing a peaceful protest on social media (SM). Then there's the non indigenous types who were 'smacked on the wrist for shagging kids'.Posted by: @patMade us who we are, better people by far than the later pampered spoiled little bastard generations!
There are many many cases all around the world, of people being punished, sacked from their jobs, thrown out of their universities, being fined inordinate amounts of money, et...etc.
It's literally all about control, and manufacturing consent for the narrative, especially of future generations. For example Labour saying men CAN be pregnant. "They" use this narrative is also being promoted by the film and entertainment industry. I recently watched an episode of The Good Doctor. It showed a 'transitioning man' who had some tumour. During pre op tests high levels of some chemical was dicovered and it was concluded this only ocurred in pregnant women. This is when the characters 'secret' was revealed. Long story short, 'he' decided to have the baby, before he married his 'husband'.
Who are "They"? They are the people/organisations people that we used to laugh at the mention of, the literati, the 5th state, and other surrepticious entities.
Who's laughing now?

I wrote the above and then asked AI too look at it. The first draft concluded it was a far right populist theory. The second draft, a bit more mellowed. Then i asked it to precis it, the following came back. AI is great for this type of stuff.
Manufacturing Consent and Silencing Dissent: The New Social Order
We are living in an age where speaking one’s mind — especially on social media — can carry serious consequences. Around the world, people have been fined, fired, expelled from universities, or even imprisoned simply for expressing views that challenge dominant narratives.
Take, for example, the woman who reportedly received a prison sentence for promoting a peaceful protest online. Whether one agrees with her or not, the principle at stake is freedom of expression. Contrast that with certain criminal cases involving far more serious offenses — including abuse of minors — where the offenders received comparatively mild penalties. It reveals a troubling imbalance in how justice is applied.
But this isn't just about overreach or inconsistent punishment. It’s part of a larger system of behavioral conditioning, one that increasingly relies not on overt coercion, but on subtle manipulation — particularly through what’s known as nudge theory.
Nudge theory, developed in behavioral economics, is based on the idea that people can be guided toward certain behaviors without them realizing it — through cues, design choices, framing of information, or controlled exposure. In theory, it’s meant to encourage better decisions — like saving money or eating healthier. In practice, it's now being used by governments, tech companies, and institutions to shape public opinion and normalize specific ideological positions.
Take gender ideology as a case in point. In recent years, statements like “men can get pregnant” — once considered fringe — are now echoed by major political figures, such as members of the Labour Party. This rapid shift wasn't purely the result of open debate or scientific consensus. It’s the product of repetition, representation, and reward mechanisms built into media, education, and online platforms. Those who affirm the narrative are rewarded with praise and visibility. Those who question it face public shaming, shadow bans, or worse.
Entertainment also plays a powerful role in this. In a recent episode of The Good Doctor, a storyline featured a trans man discovering he was pregnant. The plot served as both human interest and ideological reinforcement. When media constantly portrays certain values as morally superior, it’s not just storytelling — it’s nudging.
Even silence is engineered. Algorithms prioritize “approved” content, while subtly burying dissent. Social norms are redefined not through public consensus, but through managed visibility. You’re not being forced to think a certain way — you’re just being shown, again and again, that thinking differently has consequences.
And this leads us back to the bigger picture. Who benefits from this climate of engineered consent? The answer lies in the vague but powerful “They” — the unelected class of technocrats, media executives, NGOs, and policy influencers who operate in the background of public life. Not long ago, pointing this out would get you laughed off as a conspiracy theorist. But as more people experience the chilling effect of cultural coercion, the laughter is dying out.
We’re not witnessing an organic social evolution. We’re living through a managed transition — one in which fear, shame, and behavioral science replace argument and persuasion.
The result? A generation too afraid to say boo to a goose, molded not by debate, but by design.
Who's laughing now?

Here’s a precis (summary) of the revised editorial:
Modern society is increasingly shaped not by open debate, but by soft coercion and engineered consent. People are being punished — socially, legally, and professionally — for expressing dissenting views, especially online. This suppression is often justified through selective enforcement and amplified by media, politics, and culture.
A key tool in this process is nudge theory: subtle behavioral manipulation that influences beliefs and choices without force. Originally intended for positive outcomes, it now serves to reinforce dominant ideologies — particularly around identity, gender, and political correctness — by rewarding compliance and punishing dissent.
Entertainment and algorithms play a central role in normalizing these narratives, while silencing alternative views. This system is maintained not by an obvious authoritarian force, but by a network of institutions and influencers — "They" — who shape public opinion from behind the scenes.
Ultimately, this is not organic progress, but controlled transformation — one where people are discouraged from thinking freely and conditioned to conform through fear, social pressure, and psychological manipulation.
I,ve grown too old for this totally fukked up world Don! 🤬
I know the feeling Dave, but as shit state as my health is, i wouldn't mind another 10yrs or so.Posted by: @dave-burgessI,ve grown too old for this totally fukked up world Don! 🤬
For 'Nudge Theory' read social media and all the other bollocks they're drip fed almost from birth. The eldest stepson and wife were with us last week with their 6 month old son. Although they've sworn he'll not have access to it, every time they put a phone down(which is seldom!) he reaches for it because he sees it in their hands all the time and wants it. She has an app that has to be pressed every time she gets the tit out to feed him and records the time he latches on for and supposedly guarantees her knowing he's getting the right amount of milk. She also records every nappy change 'to keep account', I said surely it's obvious when the packet's getting empty you need to buy some more! She decided to start him on solids while she was here, and I offered to blend some of what we were having as I did with my kids, but no she has a great way of doing it learned from the phone where you mash broccoli and give it to him with a finger sized bit for him to hold and wipe all round him. Similar over the next few days with turnip, spud and of all things avocado! The bowl was left in front of him so he could grab handfuls and smear them all around and if he grabbed the spoon then he was left with it to play with, result f.ck all went in his gob, but when TLO demonstrated the old 'plane coming in for landing' technique complete with noises which resulted in him eating loads more with less mess she was told that it was 'too stressful and old fashioned for a modern baby!' Nudge theory at it's best! 🙄
Well I've heard it all now,so now you can't make aircraft noises when your feeding kids. I used to do that with all of mine. Do you think that's why they hate me ? 🤣
Bet they didn't join the RAF though Bob did they? Too traumatised by your 'passive aggressive' feeding techniques! The other stepson's wife is expecting in September and she's an immature Disney fan and podcast addict 29 going on 6 yrs old so f.ck knows what she'll behave like!
Fukk me, that is some amount of bollox Pat. You have to wonder how we all reached our respective ages? When i was teaching little fukkers, me and my mate called computers the glass tit. Dump the fukkers on it and get a bit of peace. You should've suggested a Guinness with the hot poker in it.Posted by: @patFor 'Nudge Theory' read social media and all the other bollocks they're drip fed almost from birth. My g/dtr spends too much time on tablets etc, but that's only after whizzing around at a rate of knots for a while and she needs a rest. You're right re nudge theory though, she has so many accents etc, but i must admit, her speech and understandin is amazing for 2yrs 5months old
It's lazy parenting at it's worst! We used to feel guilty for plonking them in front of the telly while we got on with doing the washing or whatever, but now you rarely see a tot in a pushchair or sat in a cafe without a phone/tablet in their fist and the parents flicking through theirs, not a word being spoken between them or to the child. They go to school barely able to talk, feed themselves or use a toilet at 5 yrs old, and what's on the desk at school waiting for them? A f.ckin' computer, not a pencil and paper in sight! Jump forward 15 yrs and they've computed their way through some shite 'Degree' that Tony Blair convinced them was their 'Right' and then back to mummy's spare bedroom or Maccy D's to flip burgers and whine they're overqualified for it while aspiring to be the next billionaire 'Influencer'! Glad I'm not having to bring one up in this shite world we've created for them!
My two grand daughters start Uni in Sept we had them doing their home work when they came on summer holidays so hopefully done some thing right
Good encouragement Jack, hope it,s appreciated. My experience was everything going fine until they discover beer and men.
I discovered beer but thankfully not men! Deffo went wrong somewhere down the line though! 🙄
🤣🤣🤣🤣 just keep your fingers crossed that they don't go on Pride matches. Why they ever made that legal is beyond my comprehension!
The only kind of 'Pride' march allowed should be ones showing Pride in your country with proper Union Flags flying not rainbow ones! Mind you there's not much to be proud of in this ruined country of ours is there? 🙁
