Thanks Pat but out near Yarmouth there are sandbanks
A remember Ridgeway and Blythe turning up at the Lines after thid rowed the Atlantic and a bit later the wee Jock from 22 rowed it on iz own.
big headlines back then Dave
Not sure Jack but a think it wuz the first time it ad bin achieved, real headline makers!
Of course Ridgeway and Blythe had a block named after them in Depot, think the band and gymnastic display team used to live there.
Browning Barracks was just a building site when a went thru Maida Pat, Victorian Building at its best, even iron boot scrapers outside the doors and in winter a raid on the coyle stoor a must if tha dint want ta fukkin freeze ta dee-ath. Derring Lines even fukkin worse.like Stalag Luft burrat least thy ad the owd coyle stove ta put thi pit up to it ta keep thi plates o meight warm.
Before the Squadron moved to Rhine Barracks, we were at Haig Lines at Crookham Cross Roads, it was all spider huts, but they did have radiators unlike the old pot bellied stoves in some spider accommodation. I thought the old spiders were okay!
Stayed in spiders and nissen huts with stoves in various places and never had a problem. The youngsters these days would be bamboozled by the thought of lighting a stove, never having been outside a gas fired centrally heated house. I remember one of my brother's daughter being fascinated by my mother's open fire and she made a toasting fork from a wire coat hanger to show her how to make toast the old way.
Tha just can,t beat holy ghost done on open jeremiah Pat.Still gorran owd toastin fork, brill back scratcher!
Cold old mornings just before toddling off to school, eat a great big end of loaf crust, toasted on the fork by an open fire range, then a spoonful of treacle smeared over it. Grand Stuff!
Proper British food Bob!
Brings back memories, that after a bowl of porridge
Funny eh, everything me mother said was good for me, the health gurus are telling me to avoid?
Yes Bob, and look at the fukkin state o the fat kunts these days, the number o lard arses tha sees. Gud basic scoff wi exercise the way ta gu!
