Watched a Doco on BBC 4 last night

Dave Tompkins was a petty thief who craved adventure. His career as an international mercenary began in Africa and took him all over the world - to Afghanistan, Croatia and later to Colombia, where he led a team commissioned to assassinate notorious Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar. He went out with Callan and Copland to Angola he was the explosives guy in the team. While laying some mines he was injured by one going off. Got casavact  back to uk just before Callan executed some of his men. Peter McAleese featured. We had one guy in our squadron who was out there he told me that the only way he survived was to keep to SOP’s staying in the bush and no tracks/roads

Did you ever get Dandelion and Burdock from the pop man. I was never particularly fond of it as a kid. But a lot of kids loved it. The best part for me was taking the pop bottles back to get the money off to go to the pictures!

Used to go round the bins in the stone factory behind our house and go in to scrounge empties off the workers who couldn't be bothered taking them home for the deposit. Sweeties and fags galore from Pilkington's shop up the road!

Makes you wonder though we had more recycling savvy than they do now, paper bags not plastic, glass bottles not plastic, greaseproof paper not plastic food containers! It would save a lot of accumulation of rubbish if we introduced those systems again!

To the point but true Dave, devoid of reality. Living in a total world of make-believe!

We still had it until about 1980, each sheet having 'Government Property, Now Wash Your Hands' printed on them in blue.
