Watched a Doco on BBC 4 last night

Dave Tompkins was a petty thief who craved adventure. His career as an international mercenary began in Africa and took him all over the world - to Afghanistan, Croatia and later to Colombia, where he led a team commissioned to assassinate notorious Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar. He went out with Callan and Copland to Angola he was the explosives guy in the team. While laying some mines he was injured by one going off. Got casavact  back to uk just before Callan executed some of his men. Peter McAleese featured. We had one guy in our squadron who was out there he told me that the only way he survived was to keep to SOP’s staying in the bush and no tracks/roads

When I went for my final medical in Palace Barracks some 12 yr old Hat doctor looked at the various injuries and conditions the unit doc had put down as a claim for the War Pension and said "I just don't see how a relatively young man of 40 can have picked up so many hurts!" I said to him that he had no idea of what we put our bodies through in The Reg as he would spend his whole career working as a mobile GP out of a Land Rover or APC and would never find himself plummeting from the air in pitch blackness before picking up his extremely heavy kit and carrying it for miles across rough terrain before putting in section attacks or similar. "Try 23+yrs of that then come back and sign my chit!" I said! He humbly signed and gave me a fairly comfortable living so far! 🙄

Many years ago in was summoned to "Lourdes" in Glasgow, for one of many 'medical reviews'.  The sole purpose of these is to reject your sickness claim.  I was always of the opinion that the very fact you got there was grounds to decline your claim.  At the time, my left hand was completely closed and my right hand was in the process of opening up, but was very stiff.  My ankles were swollen and stiff and my back was fukked as usual.  The doc called my name and disappeared around the corner into his office.  I got out of my seat with the help of my wife and, holding the wall, hobbled to his office.  In the office he told me to stand (after sitting down) facing the door whilw conducted a 'hearing' test??  He then asked me to take my shoes off, i told him he would need to help me put them on and that would be very painful.

He then tried to get me to do a mobility test, i explained to him i had only recently got on my feet after almost 2yrs on my back.  He didn't care.  He asked me if i could get down on my knees, i said no, he asked me to touch my toes, i declined, he then asked me to stand on one leg, i declined this too.  One of the other 'tests' was to pick up a 5p, i couldn't do this with any hand.  He then asked me if i could walk 100', i said "eventually".  I asked one doctor what's the point of being able to walk 100' (with no time stated), now 20m?  Like Pat, i pointed out that in a previous life, i was expected to parachute into an area and pick up, sometimes my own bodyweight, carry it for anything from ten to twenty miles and then attack a defended position.  No response.  His only purpose was to get as many people failed as he could, we were just fees to them.

Needless to say i failed the medical and had my benefits stopped.  I then had to go to a tribunal to get them restored.  This happened about three times over the years, three times i appealed and they were three times they were restored.  It's only a money spinner for the corporate mates ATOS, SERCO etc, of the Government.

They seem to revel in trying to make life as difficult as possible for people on benefits, if you asked the bastard to cut his wages to what you have to survive on, perhaps he might see what your trying to tell him.

May the fleas of a thousand camel's ,infest his skidders!

I had dealings with these wankers years ago and proved they actually told lies like "I noticed the subject's back and shoulder muscles moving naturally" She'd have had a job through 3 layers of clothing which weren't removed at any time and from in front as I wasn't asked to turn round. "I observed the subject was able to easily tie and untie his laces" In shoes that were slip ons! and several other lies that earned an apologetic letter from the board and reinstatement of payments after a couple of tribunals. There was a good documentary a few years back where a doctor went for a job with them and questioned what he should do if someone was paralysed and could only use one finger. He was told by the French woman running the course that there was no reason they couldn't be employed as a fire safety officer with a button to push in the event of a fire! He was told to refuse benefits to 80% of applicants regardless of their condition! Twats!

The scaffolding they put in my pelvis and ankle after my foray into stunt driving has put paid to any ambitions of triathlete fame Jack, as my 'running' is reduced to a 10yd lurch and getting my arse over a bike saddle is near impossible. Still able so swim at least! 🤣

Is that where the trainasium went 🙂

It wasn't loopholes that annoyed me Bob, it was out and out lies! At the same time when 2 drunken drug addicts turned up causing hassle in the waiting room they signed papers to give them everything they wanted there and then just to get rid of them! Some of the  malingering bastards turned up carrying a couple of carrier bags of assorted medications that you knew would kill a hephalump if they were really taking them all, probably borrowed off their grannies, and sat laughing about how they were beating the system because they knew all the scams to pull, but genuine raspberry ripples like Don get turned away!

Genuine people with authorized payments are easy targets for the authorities Pat. They know that their easy, and take full advantage of it.

Perhaps one day someone genuine will wake up to the fact that, our beloved overseas visitors who have never subscribed a penny into the system, and are illegally entering or invading our shores in hoards are draining our coffers in order to support them.

And these idiots in charge, haven't got the balls to say enough is enough the indigenous population must come first because they are the people who are paying the taxes. We are not the world's charity shop!

I read somewhere that we're the most 'surveilled' people in the world, with more cameras per person watching us than places like China and Russia where you would expect 'Big Brother' type behaviour!

It's a good system, helped me find a few locations okay. But you don't want your mug plastered all over it!
