Talking to my lad on the phone just now, and he said ,I've just read the registration plate of the vehicle in which the Arch Duke Ferdinand was assinated prior to WW1 was 111118. Armistice Day. I never knew that !

I think it is Tone, my lad saw it on U tube, he said some visitor to the museum where the vehicle is part of the display had asked the bloke in charge if that was the original number plate. And the reply was yes.

Ironic. It's a bit like Pete's registration plate being MY R00ND
I have always set myself a very low standard, and constantly fail to achieve it.

Wonder if the round that shot him was a Dum Dum, because the twats who led our troops through that carnage certainly were !

When you think the only forms of communication with the general public in those days was either Newspapers, public speakers or bill posters. So it was not surprising that the call to arms was so responsive, along with those females who thought it was their patriotic duty to give any man out of uniform a white feather irrespective of the fact that some were under age, or unfit through medical conditions . Thousands flocked to recruiting stations to sign up.I doubt today with social media, television, and other forms of communication whether we would have the same response with the general populace knowing how families suffered due to losses in both WW1 and WW2. With the mistakes made by all sides regarding military leadership leading to their relatives being buried in unknown graves in foreign lands.
