  • John (Bing) Crosbie...

...today we were told the shocking news of Bing's death. His son David who was/is OC9 confirmed it to Chris Davies a past OC9:

"Lt Col David Crosbie has asked me to pass on the very sad news that his Dad died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep yesterday at home, to Airborne Engineers who may have known his Dad. Dave is currently abroad but is on his way home and will be with his Mum on Saturday.

I well remember Bing in 9 Independent Parachute Squadron as the epitome of a fine soldier who was hugely respected throughout the Squadron. He was extremely proud of David who, as he was, is also a highly respected Airborne Sapper. If I hear anything about the funeral arrangements I will forward it."

Here's Bing with another Sqn legend.
