They can say what they like it won't change my mind, The mystical art of Chutney Ferreting should still be illegal. It's against nature, and in the services could prove dangerous!

It proved dangerous for hundreds of thousands during the 80's and 90's when the old Arsehole Injected Death Sentence took hold!

The ex Father in Law was a tail gunner in Whitley bombers during the war. Got some tales off him one night in the pub. Didn't sink in the significance of what he went through. Looking at that picture gives me a good idea. He was involved with the Dresden raids.

How we all wish we'd paid more attention to the tales told on rare occasions by those old boys! I always enjoy reading the 'Lost Voices of...' books where a collection of interviews about veterans experiences are gathered, ranging from WW1 through to present times. I remember feeling a sense of loss when there was a poster on the Aldershot Garrison Church notice board that the last meeting of Boer war veterans would be held as there were only 2 left and their colours would be hung inside. This was about '76 or so and they had to be near 100 yrs old to have served in the Boer War and their stories would die with them. Recently read Hew Pike's book covering letters and tales of his family's service through 4 generations from then to modern Afghanistan and wished I had that sort of historical material about my family.

My old man was wounded in Africa, i only know he saved a mate's life, because the guy used to come and visit him into the 60's. The only thing,he ever said about the war was "puck the puckin Germans", when he was pissed...which was quite a lot.

I don't know if it was because he didn't want to 'swear' in front of the children, or because he didn't have his teeth in Pat.
