    Re: Remember these days

That's what I have now Dave, daughter bought it for my birthday good bit of gear. Unlike the chink crap pretending to be Remington, it was a drawn out battle on E Bay to get my money back, but I wasn't ready to give in to some scammer and eventually they paid up !

See them wandering round with all sorts of styles these days, and colours Red, Green, Blue anything but bloody natural. Surely all that buggering about with hair can't do it any good over time. Some of them look as though they've been fathered by a parrot !

Back in the 60's Brum (BSM 148) wrote on FB
With all this news about Heatwave Avoidance I am reminded about when I was in NGFO5 in Bahrain attached to 3 Para in 1964 just after the Radfan and we were in Aden taking part in a trial for ‘How long soldiers could continue in adverse weather conditions wearing full fighting order.’ Well anyone could tell them the results even before we started. A Platoon with us fully laden had to operate in the desert and a local village as guys dropped like flies. There were boffins from the UK supervising the whole process. Prior to setting off we were briefed by the Coy Sgt Maj who said ‘Right you lot it will be hot out there so take it steady OK? It is supposed to be 130 deg in the sun and around 90 deg in the shade’. One young Cpl asked ‘If it’s going to be 90 deg in the shade what are we expected to do?’ to which the Sgt Maj said, without hesitation ‘Keep out of the fu***ng shade son’.

                    Re: Remember these days

That reminds me of one of the blokes complaining at Barry Budden that it was colder in the hut than it was outside, and was told to "open the fecking door then".
Makes me laugh, all this panicking in the media about a bit of sunshine and heat. Complaining about a nice bit of weather. The Aussies'll be laughing their cocks off at us for a bunch of Pommy poofters. I remember the first time I walked into a ships engine room, past the exhaust gas boiler at the top of the engine room, and thought it was a bit warm, and that was just tied up alongside in Liverpool, with the main engine stopped. A few months later I was flogging up cylinder head nuts with a 28 pound hammer in Sydney, on Boxing day, and it was so hot you didn't dare look at the thermometer. I nearly fainted with the heat, proper first tripper. The Storekeeper took pity on me and went and got me a glass of water and a salt tablet, and I was as right as rain in five minutes. The second engineer just told me to stop sitting around like a girl and get back to work. It used to get incredibly hot on top of the engine and especially the boilers. Sometimes you had to get inside the crankcase while it was still hot, with hot oil dripping onto your head, after having just done a run across the Pacific whilst waiting to go through the canal, and do a hammer test on all the nuts, to make sure they weren't loose, it was as hot as the hinges of hell. Made you enjoy a few beers even more than usual. No one gave a rats arse, you just got on with it. Happy days, in fact. Reminds me of the episode in It Ain't Half Hot, when the BSM gave them all the order to defy the sun. Shaking their fists at the sky, shouting, "Come on sun, do your worst!" I like the heat, it beats freezing yer bollocks off.

                      Re: Remember these days

I don't fare too well in the heat, much prefer the cold. On an ex in the 76 heatwave, i started hallucinating on a relatively short tab. I was tail end charlie on a resup patrol, i was pointing to my right and said to my mate in front of me, what's that fukker doing sitting on a couch watching TV down there? He put me in front of him in case i wandered off. I think it was a touch of dehydration.
"We're surrounded on all sides... Good... you're obviously in the right place".

                          Re: Remember these days

Looking back I didn't perform to well in the heat but the more you spent out in the hills in the heat the more you got used to it. In Cyprus we had to tab up this hill in these conditions and having been on the piss the night before myself and a pal were some what struggling. Along came a patrol from the blades carry twice as much as us never said a lot sweat dripping off them....that put me in my place
