Re: Pegasus at the Arboretum delivery and erection of.
Good to catch up briefly with a few faces at the NMA, I got a last minute .com phonecall from Mark Jackson ex PF and son of Mike Jackson (POD) ref this project
This resulted in "OP Pegasus Prune Cymru"
A huge Pegasus with Belephron riding proud has been sculptured by an old friend Mark Jackson of Jacko Art and cast at Castle Fine Arts Foundry at Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant above Bala. It will be moved slowly and carefully in 2 weeks via road to the National Memorial Arboretum at Staffordshire where it will take pride of place in a dedicated Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces remembrance plot.
ALFA Tree Services are proud to be associated with this project and will be pruning roadside tree canopies across 2 counties to allow safe passage of Pegasus.
10 miles of trees pruned in a day with traffic management....

Glad you got the pics Jaffa. Sad that none of the Headshed could manage to walk through to the O.R's tent to say hello!!!All great things are simple, and many can be expressed in single words: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.

Fair one Huey, If I could have had a picture of the faces of the 7 RHA/Reg headshed when they saw me in the line up...priceless!Originally posted by Huey View PostGlad you got the pics Jaffa. Sad that none of the Headshed could manage to walk through to the O.R's tent to say hello!!!
In my previous service life I would have been waiting on or putting the tent up as an ROP for being a bad lad!!
Crazy how the worm turns!!

Unlike the Falklands anniversary where Jonathon Shaw & the Garrison Comd Aldershot were in the Traf wearing jeans & t shirts & drinking with the lads.Originally posted by Huey View PostGlad you got the pics Jaffa. It is strange. These people don't realise that they aren't in the Army for ever, & that they will have to face us as civvies later on.
Or as in most cases, keep well out of the way. Sad really.sigpicLast one dead's a cissy!

Re: Pegasus at the Arboretum delivery and erection of.
Spot on. I found that the ones that didnīt really come up to the mark (like a certain mr Clark - 2 Para not 3 Para) werethe ones that didnīt mix. Worried that they might get found out (The difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit). The ones that could do the job and knew they could handle the blokes going by what they did not what they said, had the confidence to mix and drop their -guard- without it worying them. Again some were okay but couldnīt let the OR/officer divide slip because they were afraid of loosing a bit of their -authority- All a load of b...ochs really. Itīs the way Sandhurst delt it out. There were a few officers that I had great respect for. Reason being that I knew full well that what ever they were telling us to do they could do it a darn sight better. On occasion had to tell this type to (respectfully) keep back a bit as it was supposed to be us the squaddies that were to face the music first, not the officer. If Rupert Smith had told me to go and jump in the nearest lake then I would have done so without hesitation. Knowing that there must be some valid reason for it otherwise he wouldnīt have said so. I took part in the first Gulf War (sort of). About 8 am after they had gone over the border into Kuwait. De la Guarre or whatever his name was, (commander of the British forces)was interviewed on the service radio network. He said that everything had gone very well, better than anticipated. He had had some first class reports from the front as his 2IC was sat on the top of a tank at the front. Not the usual place to find a general but his 2IC was that sort of soldier..... Re: Pegasus at the Arboretum delivery and erection of.
I remember Rupert being interviewed shortly before the off by a smarmy reporter, who asked why Para Reg wasn't there. He calmly replied that if there was a need for them, which he couldn't foresee,he would call for them, they would come,do the job,and return to base. There was no need,he said for "My Paras to waste their time sitting here building sandcastles waiting for the war to start. They are ready, waiting in Aldershot for the call, but I can't see it coming!"Chest swelled a bit watching that in Palace Barracks.Good man!

Typical Smithy. I was the ops clerk in Bessbrook 73 and he was my boss. Great bloke. Got his major while we were there. Shortly after one evening -mr Clarke- was bitching to him about it. Clarke going on about him having seniority over Smith and that he should have been made up instead. Acting like a 5 year old. Smithy tried to calm him down but didnīt have much success. In the end he was forced to order Capt Clarke to shut up about it and get on with his duties.
