Add to that the sheer pain and physical effort required to pass P Company and I think you have the answer.
As the Falklands War proved, you can take a recruit from Depot and depend on him as much as the ally old sweat from the jungles of Malaya.

Well if that don't sum it up nothing will. Its something others don't seem to have or can equate to. I know because I have made a point of asking them. Most of the time you just get a blank look.....

Look...a bloke breezes into town from Canada to sort out some estate issues and I hear about him and am there like a shot. In no time flat, me and Jock Montague 1Para are there if he needs a hand, any type of hand, and within three hours me and him are touring a Yank Aircraft Carrier in San Diego. I don't know this bloke from Adam.

Ahhhh but I do.

I know ALL about him....because he is 1Para.
I know the important bit. Thats all that mattered

It's Airborne humour and Airborne Spirit, it's what bonds us and makes us what we are. Doesn't matter who he is race or creed if he's gone through P Company he's fine by me. We meet somebody we don't know but it doesn't matter, if he's been there and done it he will always be accepted by me and be a friend for life !

Eeez oreight owd John Pat, just needs ta lighten up a bit, cos I know exactly how he feels. Just imagine the heartache n anguish I felt when they told me that I kunt bi a brain surgeon. Cheeky twat sed, "Fukk off short arse, tha waint bi able ta reach the operating table!" All my childhood hopes n dreams smashed ta smithereens in that one cutting sentence. "Fukk em!" I thought ta mesen, "I,ll bi a sex maniac instead", n just look at me now!
