    Maj Gordon Burt MC

Just heard Gordon Burt passed away aged 88. He was (I think) a Cpl when I joined 1 Para, he was a Bn armourer (REME) for 1 Para initially then transferred to Para Reg and joined 1 Para based I think on his athletics. Gordon won the army individual championships at cross country about 9 or 10 times and was a member of 1 Para athletics team in a number of distance events. Others will be able to plot his career better than me but I did run with him a few times on training runs mainly around tank tracks and he seemed to skim over mud while others drowned. Got co0mmissioned eventually and did some time in 3 Para and ran that unit in NI (MRF) which I think became 14 Int? Would have worked with another former good runner Maj Arthur Watchus (RIP) in either MRF or 14 Int. Memory is a bit f***ed but Gordon, like Arthur came through the ranks, both Para to their boot straps. RIP Gordon
