Sad News. Col DWF (David) Taylor (late PARA) died in a care home in Farnham early this morning 23 January.
He had been ill for some time and although always cheerful and outwardly very brave about it, his lack of mobility eventually weakened him.
His wife Audrey predeceased him several years ago. He leaves two sons: Giles and Piers, both of whom served in the Army and who now work in the Middle East.
David was born on 8 Oct 1935 and commissioned into the Beds & Herts Regt in 1956.
He transferred to PARA in 1962. He was a Coy Comd in 3 PARA as shown here (centre) in the photo in 1969.
From 1971-2 he was GSO2 AB Forces HQ 38 Gp RAF and GSO 2 JWE 1975 before taking command of 2 PARA 1975-8, during which time the battalion was stationed in Berlin.
Following command, he was posted on loan service to Ghana. After his retirement from the Army, he travelled widely as a Queen’s Messenger. David had a great passion for rugby (seen in the photo circa 1970 playing for Aldershot Services) and latterly he was a Steward at Twickenham.
