I suppose I will have to take them at their word that it's painless, but I'm certainly not going to try it !

You never know what's going through someone's mind. Only this week we had the last man on the planet I would've thought attempt it. Just watched a few minutes ago on the Larry King show about suicide, a guy describing how he jumped from the GG bridge, he said a millisecond after he jumped he regretted it.

I was actually going to say something like that in my post, wasn't sure of the calibre.

Totally agree with that sentiment. Knew an officer who got injured parachuting and could not lead the display team the following year. took himself back to the hospital which he had been taken to when he was injured and persuaded them that he badly needed pain killers. Went on to a well known northern golf course, got a bottle of whiskey, took the tablets along with half the bottle and set about dying. Oddly they found him dead face down in a water feature (a pond) on the golf course. Left behind a wife and 2 kids and my reaction was that of Mick's 'selfish t**t!'. Apparently the medics felt that they found him in the water because he had 'changed his mind' and treid to get water in to his system and drowned. I am sure there is a point where you may need to consider ending it (near end of life pain and illness etc), but leaving behind a young wife and kids?

    Re: It's painless...

Would appear that high bridges are a favourite way to check out.

400 have jumped of the Coronado Bay Bridge since it was built in my Manor, including me mates sister. I broke the news to him. Went in the brick yard bloke behind the counter said "Is so and so working for you ? His mother is looking for him. His sister just jumped of the Coronado Bay Bridge. Well apparently she had survived a first attempt....... came out of hospital went straight back and dived off again. When I told him he collapsed in a pile. When he found out, from the yard geezer, I knew at nine in the morning and did'nt tell im till 2.30 in the arter-newn he called me up and got mad at me on the phone. Well, fook me, I had to get that wall up. I had a fookin' inspector coming..... Would'nt have brought his sister back would it ? FFS

""The Coronado Bridge is frequently used as a suicide bridge; as of July 2017, at least 405 suicide deaths by bridge jumpers have occurred on the Coronado, trailing only the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco as the bridge most-often used for suicide in the United States.[20] ""

500 off the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Apparently biggest cause of death amongst young men aged between 21 and 35 in the UK is suicide. FFS! Loads of lads used to top themselves during the early weeks of their national service in the UK. Nowt put in place to try to reduce that toll, just carted the bodies off and adjusted the nominal roll

    Re: It's painless...

I've said before that something has deffo changed in the minds of the younger generation,so that now suicide is their first option rather than the last.'Someone's called me fat on the computer/phone,/worried about my exam results/bird's run off with me mate/got the wrong hamburger from Macky D's,I'll have to throw the rope up!F.ck's sake man up,and see what's important in life, and soldier on,don't top yerself for petty reasons.

    Re: It's painless...

We've all had our ups and downs in life, but breathing is better than not breathing. Because even a day can make a difference to ones outlook on life. So the philosophy is, once you've topped yourself there isn't any coming back, so you can never benefit from changes in circumstances. So don't feckin do it !
