    Civil rights activist, athlete, singer,
    football player, actor ,lawyer.
    Born Princeton, New Jersey
    father one of the local clergy.

    Eighteen ninety eight the event
    William McKinley President.
    Father lost his job in clergy
    white racists thought him unworthy.

    When Paul was six his mother died
    a house fire with her inside.
    Paul irrepressible at school
    academically nobodies fool.

    A huge talent for sport
    racists would retort.
    Dislocated shoulder, broken nose
    felt their wrath with fists and elbows.

    But character he had, guts too
    singing acting he would pursue.
    Moved to Europe and world fame
    people world wide knew his name.

                    Saw a piece about him on Telly the other night, apart from being a great singer, he had a great respect for the mining community of South Wales where he took part in a film about them !
