Some of you lads may have been involved. When the BD was being replaced some MoD civvies came to units to get 'ideas' for a new uniform, I think 1 Para met in the boxing club on Farnbrough Road and without doubt the most popular was a uniform based on the BD but made of better material (gaberdine was the stuff then) along with (of course) calf length boots similar to the Yank boots. What we actually got was a normal Burtons sort of suit made in Khaki, no regiment flashes, no Peggyarse and it fit like a f***in bin liner, it takes the Brits to come up with a 'military' uniform that looks like a f***in lounge suit, think that was about 61 or 62, probably wrong. Tin para hat was ok but tended to bounce all over yer head if you were doubling (which was always) and they fell to bits in the slipstream, often.
