Pack up your thunder, in an old issue bag,
Go forth under, the Para Reg flag.
Head high - on show, advance party duty,
To retrieve from a foe, an ill-gotten booty.
Northern sea-port, on Humber - Hull,
Yo-heave-ho-sort, a car deck full.
Ferry Norland, roll on, roll off,
Guard the ammo and, rat pack scoff.
Sail to Pompeii, salute maritime history,
Of redolent sea spray, Nelson’s Victory.
Venture into hackled, dingy drinking holes,
Full of Matelots-shackled, oft’ popeyed souls.
Get scuppered with ale, slap-happy Navy grog,
Froth at mast and sail, like an old sea dog.
Avast! Scurvy curs!
For........
On the ‘morrow,
Your loved ones sorrow.
For soldiers leaving,
Premature grieving.
Amidst the whistles, smiles and horn,
Some more knowing, portray forlorn...
