  • EDWARD (JOHNNY) PETERS ARNHEM VETERAN - RIP

    Gentlemen,
It is with great sadness I have to announce the sudden death of Johnny Peters aged 93 who fell ill last night shortly after watching the series on WW1.
He was taken into Ipswich Hospital where he died at 1050hrs this morning surrounded by his family.
He was the President of the Arnhem Veterans Association who spent many hours of his own time at the Museum where we all became close friends.

A great man and great friend who will be missed by everybody.

Just had a phonecall from Oldscroat to tell me of the sad news about Peter, Peter was in the very first batch of gliders to land at Arnhem, a lions heart beat in his chest during the battle is what his muckers said of him, Airborne all the way through.

            R.I.P. Peter.

Funeral at 1230 hrs St Marys Church Shotley, near Ipswich on Friday 29th August............a small church that will be overflowing for a man who was an absolute Ambassador in whatever he did.
I am sad for him, as he was so looking forward to Arnhem this year on the 70th as the President of the Arnhem Veterans Association, and also coming to our showing of THEIRS IS THE GLORY at Duxford in the WW2 cinema in September as a fundraiser, and where he was going to talk about his battle.
We know many are coming over from Holland for the service.........they will always remember him, and all those that paid the final sacrifice for their small township and keep his memory alive forever
