It is with sad reflection that i have just been informed my father Alec 'Sandy` Scott has passed away whilst playing golf his great passion for the last 40 odd years.
My father served in 3 troop 9 Independent Parachute Squadron RE from 55 - 60 participating in Suez and Cyprus. He was a boxer of some note representing the squadron before becoming Combined Services middleweight champion and team captain at a time when Britain's finest were doing National Service. He also ran pre-para and passed on some sound advise. He went on to join the PT Corp where his unit the Grenadier Guards achieved major boxing champions BAOR.
After leaving the Army to allow my sister and I to settle at school my father taught swimming becoming infamous for his no nonsense approach. Must off worked as he formed a specialist group of swimmers and trained them to go on and achieve both national awards and represent GB at the Olympics! His final years was as a school teacher at St Richards Camden before retiring. Not bad for a ill-educated troublemaker urchin from Dundee!!
It was with great pride that i would ask my colleagues back to London where my parents would always make them feel welcome. We had some mad weekends! I hope all my old mates who had the pleasure of meeting my father will raise a glass to the old man
