    Dear Friends

    Sadly we have lost another Veteran, Geoffrey “Dickie” BIRD who served with the Lancashire Fusiliers and later with the 7th Parachute Battalion.

    The Funeral Service is to take place at St. Marys Parish Church, High Street, Cheadle SK8 1PX at 1400 hrs. on Friday 13th September 2013.

    Following on, the cremation at 1515 hrs. at The Rowan Chapel at Stockport Crematorium, SK2 6LS.

    This will be followed by a reception at The Red Lion Pub in Cheadle, everyone welcome.

                        PRA Standard and bearer attended, honour guard made up of old and bold plus a 3 Para current WO. Bugler played last post. Geoff got the send off he rightly deserved. His family said Geoff would have been pleased to see so many Regiment guys there.

                        Summary from the eulogy:
                        Geoff added two years to his real birth date to sign up early and after training was part of the Normandy landings as a replacement, fought in the Battle of the Bulge (Belgium), dropped as part of Operation Varsity (The Rhine Crossing), then various places in the East ending up serving in Palestine when he eventually was de-mobbed in 1947.
