It is with the deepest regret we have to inform you of the passing of Captain Kenneth G. BETTANY who died this morning, 20th April 2013 aged 87.
Ken was the president of the North Staffs branch of the PRA.
Enlisting into the Royal Signals during WW2 Ken later volunteered for Airborne Forces, qualifying on course 140 (30th Oct to 14th Nov 1944). Initially posted to 1st Airborne Division Signals Ken served in Norway as part of operation Doomsday.
...
Later posted to Palestine with “J” Section Signals of the 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment he went on to serve 22 years in the army.
As his seven year term in the army came to an end, the Korean war was breaking out, so Captain Bettany signed up for another seven years, eventually serving until 1969.
He also qualified as an elite commando at the age of 35, so is entitled to wear the green beret, as well as the paratroopers’ red one.
When Ken eventually left the army, he got a job as a bank cashier in Hanley.
Ken recorded two CDs of his own piano music despite never having had a music lesson, and recorded it to include some of his piano playing and also recordings of Stone Male Voice Choir which he sang with for 30 years and his late wife's singing.
Rest in Eternal Peace Sir,
Thoughts and Prayers are with Family and Friends.
