I used to cut a lot of the lads hair with my clippers and one lad kept asking me to do his son's hair who was only about 2 or 3 yrs old. I kept refusing because I knew he wouldn't sit still and it would end in disaster. Eventually my wife persuaded me to do it and of course he moved his head, the plastic No2 attachment came off and he got a 2" wide bald spot all the way up the back of his head! His father ranted at me but got f.cked off at the high port as I didn't want to do it in the first place, and I never cut a child's hair again! 🙄

I suppose in them days Dave money was a bit tight, and folks used to make and mend. I remember my grandfather using the old metal last putting new soles on his shoes and  riveting washers onto kettle and cooking pots. Can't see anybody doing that in this day and age. You hear them moaning because the washing machine has broken down. My mother used the poss tub and poss stick to wash our clothes.housewives had a hard old life in those days. As kids you never thought about how tough it was for them, but I certainly appreciate it now.

A lot of kids used to get chilblains coming out of the cold and standing in front of the fire. But that was the only heat source in the house in them days. Bet you had a few of those in your childhood Dave.

Chilblains that brings back memories suffered that in my boyhood. Doing some diy bought wood from the builders merchants, while waiting to be served the cold rain got to me when I got back home I turned heating on

Funny though as kids you were running around outside in winter with next to now on and not seem to be affected by the cold until you got inside the house.and getting told off by your mother because she had to darn another hole in your socks, which were just holding together by other darns.

I wonder if the Romans suffered from them ? Hadrian's was built by the Romans almost 2000 years ago separating England from Scotland. A lot of the wall still remains. Dave maybe you can see your detecting area

Thy az ta be aware of prying eyes when detecting along the wall Jack cos it,s strictly forbiden but had some good finds on covert digs especially around Vindalanda, in fact once took the Missis wi mi for a recce of the actual site, about 40 mins from our gaff. Whil,st theer being a nosy fukker with the "Trouble" shittin ersen standing well clear a went over to a pile o shite that the official spewdent trowell scratchers ad dumped as rubbish, ad shufty round n found a beautiful copper alloy Roman brooch, still had gemstones in. Straight in the old sky rocket! 😋

I,ve put plenty of pics of finds in the past Jack but since having to buy a new laptop and being technically inept I still ant sussed how to put pics on this fukkin thing. However, all the valuable artefacts I have found and not being a collector I,ve flogged that have mainly gone to the U S of A, Collectors luv our history. Plus being a skint OAP the ackers have come in more than a little handy! 🤠
