    D Day. Pegasus Bridge

    D Day. Pegasus Bridge

Six Halifax bombers with gliders in tow
    spearheading the lord mayors show.
    Horsa gliders, no going back
packed with men ready for attack.

Bridges on the Orne river and Caen canal
    allied armies wanting free travel.
    Ox and Bucks glider men
planned to free and hold for them.

    The Germans took by surprise
    not much time to agonise.
Just ten minutes then Pegasus fell
Major Schmidt would feel Hitlerís hell.

    The consequences had Pegasus failed
Airborne forces cut off and circled.
Freedom of movement for German tanks
to the Ox and Bucks the world owes thanks.
