  • MAJOR PETER WILDBLOOD OBE - 1 PARA

Sad news of the sudden death of Peter Wildblood.
A Trustee of the Museum and volunteer since it started at Duxford in 2008.
Went in for a routine infection of the lung operation and died with complications.

He was a real gentleman, great sense of humour.
His Military service was exceptional, and he was typically modest about it. He was the first British Army soldier to have passed the U.S. Ranger course and he also served in 22.
His final position was with 1 PARA, known by many on here as a very fair man and a respected Officer.
He will be sadly missed by us all at Duxford.

His funeral will be held at 1530hrs Wednesday the 22nd of November at St Marys Church, Saffron Walden in Essex, with a wake at the Eight Bells afterwards.

    RIP Old friend

How sad. I remember him joining 1 Para maybe late 50's, he came in with a good batch of officers (Noddy Loden, Penly etc). When we heard his name expected a stompin 6'4" guy, he was a slim slight bloke and, if I have the right bloke, he was boss in the anti-tanks for a while. Went on a Bn night drop in Northumberland area, January, pissing down, freezing cold and a river crossing was called for, wrap all yer kit in a poncho, get bollock naked and float across the river. Peter who was seen bobbing up and down in the river as it carried him downstream at night, thought that was the last we would see of him alive, tough little bugger emerged out of the mist still bollock naked, covered in mud, with all of his kit intact. A decent bloke and a good orcifer as I recall him. RIP Peter Wildblood!
