  • WO1 Lance Owens BEM

Went on to FB tonight to see this sad post from Lance's son Mike. Lance was a committee member of the club. He was a good man and friend.

"It is deep sorrow and regret that I must inform friends that my dad, Lance Owens unexpectedly passed away today, 14 Oct 16; he was 59.

He served Queen and Country for 35 years, 1972-2007, reached the rank of WO1, served in the Parachute Regiment, Royal Army Ordnance Corps and latterly the Adjutant Generals Corps; he was also a member of the elite Red Devil's Free Fall Team.

He served all over the world, made many friends and lost a few too; he was awarded a British Empire Medal by the Queen for his service and dedication during his military career and most recently was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal.

He married my mum in 1980 and I'm proud to say that they stuck with each other until the end.

My dad was struck down in his retirement by a horrid illness, his passing is certainly very difficult but I know his suffering is over.

The gates at Valhalla will be open and welcome another Airborne Brother, say hello to your class of '82, Don and the boys of Warrenpoint and I'll catch up with you again for a regimental red. Not too soon though!

Goodnight dad, my friend, my hero.

Shocked, Lance lived not far from me, knew he had been unwell for some time but didn't expect this. RIP Lance .

I have always set myself a very low standard, and constantly fail to achieve it.
